Kura Master 2020

Started since 2017, Kura Master is a big-scaled sake competition held in France. Unlike its counterpart in Japan, Kura Master emphasizes the concept of “terroir” instead of just sake classification, so among the 6 categories, other than “Junmai”, “Junmai Daiginjo” and “Sparkling sake”, there are three covering rice – “Yamadanishiki”, “Omachi” and “Dewasansan”. All the judges have to be French as well.
In 2020, the jury was consisted of 51 professional sommeliers, 4 of whom are certified with Meilleurs Ouvriers de France (MOF). Among 824 entry sakes, only 84 were awarded with platinum medals and 188 with gold medals. The best sakes were chosen to be “Top 18”, one of which will win the best prize, “President Medal” in November. If you want to try the sake recommended by a professional sommelier or try to match sake with Western Food, definitely you should give a try to the awarded sakes in Kura Master!
